Day 27: Can we be friends again?
Are you happy with your current mirror’s reflection?
Are you working out consistently or going from diet to diet and are still not happy with the results?
Do you magnify certain parts of your body and are unhappy with what you see?
Did you know that 8 out of 10 women and 4 out of 10 men are not happy with their current image?
Our bodies are beautifully wired and every thought, movement & emotion has a big part in forming ‘our’ self-image, which then creates as our self-esteem.
Body perfection is not the foundation of high self-esteem! Hmm, you ask. Yes, that is correct. Flick through your favourite magazines and you will find a number of celebrities who battle to match their own mental self-image.
You would be surprised to know that in an interview with Nicole Kidman she talked a lot about how she wished to have looked differently; to have had more curves like Marilyn Monroe. In an interview with Cherlize Theron she said that she did not see herself as beautiful! Yes, it seems strange that most of these body-beautiful women are not content with their outer image.
Whether you want to change your body or just come to terms with who you are, isn’t it time to start accepting and embracing your body?
It is very rare that someone is 100% satisfied with their body. There will always be something we all wish to change now and in the future.
You often hear me talk about dressing to enhance and learning to flaunt ‘your’ assets and the art of optical illusion to camouflage those less flattering areas (which we all have).
So how can we begin to appreciate and accept our bodies just the way they are?
1) Be gentle with yourself and begin to celebrate ‘your’ uniqueness.
It is very unhealthy to compare ourselves to someone else or to hold an unrealistic mental picture of ourselves. A person who looks beautiful (whom maybe you admire) could also dislike their body appearance. Did you know that 90% of adult females have cellulite? Ninety percent!
Let’s start focusing on ‘your’ own physical assets. It is healthy to start by accepting that no-one is perfect and it is harmful for your self-esteem if you play the waiting “when” game (when I am thin enough, pretty enough, fit enough, anything enough). If we are not careful these years can catch up with us!
2) Take stock of yourself.
For example, if you have beautiful eyes or face, why not get yourself a new hairstyle? If your facial face shape permits, why not a fringe that frames your beautiful eyes so others can notice? Or get a haircut that will enhance your facial features even further (however, ensure that your hairdresser understands the principles of your facial structure and your colour complexion).
Also, did you know that the two things that will outdate your look the most is hair & shoes? Not that women need another pair, but I have just given you another excuse to hit the shoe stores!
Instead of focusing on your challenge or ‘hate pet’ areas, make a list of your best features ‘today’. Avoid again comparing yourself to an older version of yourself, your sister, friend or a future you.
Trust me, I cannot dress the past or future version of you. Only the true present YOU!
Make a list right now.
3) Take a healthy pride of your outer image.
‘Healthy’. Becoming obsessed with anything creates negative energy and expectations. It is the small things in life that make big differences. There are a lot of handsome men walking around the streets with dirty shoes and nails. There are some women who are very beautiful, vivacious and fun people yet they are false advertising themselves as their exteriors reflect the contrary: someone who is plain, boring and who dislikes herself.
“how you look and feel about yourself is how others perceive you”
So lets shake up our body thoughts and wardrobe. Be aunthentic with yourself and cultivate self-love and pride. At the end of the day the most attractive man or woman in a room is not necessarily the most beautiful one!
Let’s feed our body & mind some healthy thoughts and be kind to ourselves….. Are you ready to meet your best friend again?
Love you ❤️❤️
